CNN —Former President Donald Trump, who paved the way for the undoing of federal abortion rights protections, said that some Republicans “speak very inarticulately” about the issue and have pursued “terrible” state-level restrictions that could alienate much of the country. Trump also warned Republicans that the party would lose voters by advancing abortion restrictions without exceptions for cases of rape, incest or risks to the mother’s life. “Other than certain parts of the country, you can’t – you’re not going to win on this issue,” he said. Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence, has advocated a federal abortion ban after 15 weeks. Trump said he believed it was “probably better” to leave abortion restrictions up to the states instead of trying to pass federal legislation on the issue.

A former undercover CIA officer in the Middle East and South Asia, Hurd served on the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee. In 2019, he strongly criticized tweets by then-President Trump saying four progressive Democratic minority congresswomen, including one born in Somalia, should "go back" to where they came from. Sen. Chuck Grassley says that this Iowa Dairy Queen is a "good place for u kno what." After coming across it during my reporting trip to Des Moines, I figured I had to give it a try. This Dairy Queen location, the now 89-year-old senator wrote on Twitter, is a "good place for u kno what." Since then, he's made a number of trips to other Dairy Queen locations for "u kno what." I'm currently in Iowa for a reporting trip, covering the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition's Annual Spring Kick-Off, where the religious conservative organization is hosting several major 2024 GOP presidential candidates.

Regardless, he expressed concern that most RNC members were choosing to ignore the grassroots backlash to another McDaniel term.
